Where is Røldal?
Røldal is a hidden and charming village of 520 people, southwest of the Hardangervidda mountain plateau. Røldal has the deepest snow in Europe, and normal snowdepths are 2-5 meters. Average snowfall during the winter is 12 meters (480 inches).
Røldal is a freeriders paradise in a high alpine environment, situated three hours from Bergen and Stavanger, and four and a half hours from Oslo and Kristiansand. Flying in to Røldal is done by Haugesund airport Karmøy, with regular direct flights from London, Copenhagen and the largest cities in Norway.
Public transport is serviced by Nor-way express coaches, route 180 Haukeli express.
By car from:
Oslo
E 18 towards Drammen, over the bridge, turn right onto E 134 direction Haugesund. Follow this for four hours through Kongsberg, Notodden (tasty burgers at Hydro Texaco by the roundabout), Vinje, Haukeli until you see Røldal at the end of the tunnels after the Haukeli mountain pass.
Bergen
Follow E 16/Rv7 to Kvanndal, car ferry to Utne, Rv 555 to Odda, then Rv 13 to Røldal!
Stavanger
E 39 to Aksdal, then E 134 to Røldal. For a scenic route, aim for Rv 13.
Kristiansand
Follow Rv 9 until you reach Haukeli, then turn left.
